Evacuation - WW2 Civil Defence and Home Guard - Suffolk
Public Information leaflet No 3 dealt with evacuation. The Government had mad arrangements for the evacuation of school children or children below the school age if accompanied by a responsible person from ‘evacuable’ areas to ‘reception’ areas. This was a voluntary scheme.
Parents were told to register their children with the local education authorities / local authorities without delay. If hostilities broke out and air attacks began it might be very difficult to arrange to get away.
People were advised there was no question of wholesale clearance. Most people would have work to do and those not joining the Fighting Forces should stand by their jobs or the new jobs which would be undertaken in war (e.g. munitions work).
